F.A.Q
WHY EXPERIENCE MARINE SANCTUARIES?
Snorkelling is a healthy, learning, and experiential activity open to the entire community. EMS snorkel tours offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in our spectacular marine environment and deepen your understanding of local marine ecology, habitats, and the importance of protected areas.
WHERE DO I MEET TO TAKE PART IN THE TOUR?
Your email booking confirmation will provide details of where to meet. The EMS team will have a registration marquee and snorkel gear set up near the entry point.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT TO ENTER THE EVENT?
EMS snorkel events are open to all ages from 5 years and above, depending on the event. All children 15 years and under must be accompanied in the water by an adult parent or guardian.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A WETSUIT?
Yes, a wetsuit is mandatory for buoyancy, protection, and comfort during the snorkel tour. Wearing a wetsuit is also a requirement of our public liability insurance. Wetsuits and boots are provided for participants and are included in the ticket price. Colder snorkels, such as CuttleFest, also include gloves and hoods for extra protection. You are welcome to bring your own wetsuit and snorkel gear.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING TO THE EVENT?
Wear your bathers, and bring a towel, water, and sun protection. We can safely store your car keys at the registration table while you are in the water. Please provide any medication you may need during the snorkel tour to our staff at the registration table.
DO YOU NEED TO HAVE SNORKELLING EXPERIENCE?
No snorkelling experience is required, but you need to be able to swim (any stroke) at least 25 meters. EMS offers snorkel tours in locations suitable for beginners. See our inclusive Information (add link to inclusive tab) for more details. If you’d like to learn snorkelling skills and build confidence, EMS also runs Pool Snorkel Classes approximately once a month.
HOW IS EMS INCLUSIVE?
EMS actively works towards inclusivity and accessibility for staff, volunteers, and participants. We understand that many people are new to snorkelling, may feel nervous, or may live with a disability. EMS provides support to ensure a safe and enjoyable nature immersion experience. Ask about our NDIS self-managed plan lower ratio support. See our inclusive Information for more details on our inclusive Snorkel Program and equipment.
